Antonio Conte’s second season at Inter Milan looks set to bring about a change in Marcelo Brozović’s future, with the midfielder one of many names who could be sold to help build the Nerazzurri in the Don’s image. According to Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Chelsea could be one of the clubs interested should the 27-year-old be made available.
(Ed.note: ironically, Brozović was one of the players most heavily linked in the first days of Conte’s regime at Chelsea.)
After signing a goalkeeper, there’s a strong possibility that the Blues could look to reinforce the defensive midfield position, with a report from the Athletic yesterday regurgitating the names of Declan Rice and Boubakary Soumaré — neither of whom look to be happening at the minute — so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Chelsea were indeed monitoring Brozović’s situation.
While Brozović is more of a regista like Jorginho, he’s much quicker and defensively-capable than the Chelsea Vice-captain, and is also quite capable of building out from the back, which makes him a more “complete” player than any of the other three.
Although it must be noted that Brozović’s form last season did take a bit of downturn towards the second half of the season, with reasons ranging from tactical to personal.
Along with Chelsea, Bayern Munich are also said to be interested, which may or may not have something to do with Thiago Alcântara’s expected departure.
Despite Inter trying to make raise funds — and make space?— by selling players like Brozović, making a move for our N’Golo Kanté will end in nothing but disappointment for the Nerazzurri, with Kanté more than happy to stay and Chelsea more than happy to keep him.
