Antonio Rüdiger’s salary a problem for AC Milan — report

Stumbling block

While PSG are the frontrunners for Antonio Rüdiger’s signature, there are other clubs interested in the veteran centre back as well, like AC Milan, who are looking for someone to partner their captain, Alessio Romagnoli.

However, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Inside Futbol), that will be difficult for the Rossoneri. Unless Rüdiger agrees to lower his annual salary of €4.5m, Milan will be looking elsewhere.

It’s worth noting that Milan faced a similar issue in their quest to sign Tiémoué Bakayoko, before he agreed to lower his salary. But that move is still not done, with the two teams yet to agree on a fee (transfer or buy-option). So even if Rüdiger agrees to a wage reduction, it’s likely that Milan will propose a similar deal as for Bakayoko, a loan with a buy option, and with Chelsea already rejecting a similar proposal from PSG, the situation appears to be the same as before.

Either way, Chelsea need to find a solution, and do it quickly before the transfer window shuts in 10 days.
