Emerson ‘only thinks of Chelsea’ as agent flip-flops on exit odds

Here to stay?

New Chelsea left back Ben Chilwell made his debut off the bench on Tuesday, getting 24 minutes in the 6-0 win over Barnsley in the League Cup, during which time he even managed to set up a goal for Olivier Giroud. But the man who got the start was Emerson Palmieri, and he stayed on after Chilwell arrived, too, moving up to play winger and then even swapping flanks to the right side!

Emerson in fact had one of his best games in some time, though ostensibly he remains the third choice left back (behind Marcos Alonso as well), and the one most likely to leave before the end of the transfer window.

But while that’s been the accepted narrative for some time, Emerson’s agent is not quite ready to consider that a certainty at this point, even though a month ago he admitted to the “possibility” of Emerson leaving.

“I always read that Emerson is close to Juventus, but I can reiterate that there have never been contacts in this transfer window with Juventus.

“Right now it’s hard to talk about his farewell, the boy only thinks of Chelsea.”

The economic situation in world football probably isn’t helping either, with Chelsea not keen on cut-rate deals but not many willing to spend big, and certainly none so far on Emerson.

Still, keeping three left backs is certainly not something we should consider, and one of Emerson or Alonso will surely have to leave at least on loan in the next 10-11 days.
