Ladies and gentlemen, it’s happening. After weeks of rumors and confirmations and false starts, Édouard Mendy’s transfer to Chelsea is finally happening.
We’ve had personal terms agreed with for almost a month now, but the agreement between the two clubs was not forthcoming. That has reportedly changed this weekend, and has now in fact been confirmed by Mendy’s soon-to-be former head coach, Julien Stéphan.
Speaking after their 2-1 win over AS Monaco on Saturday, which did not feature Mendy but did put Rennes at least temporarily atop Ligue 1, Stéphan confirmed that the 28-year-old goalkeeper is on his way to Chelsea.
“We’re looking for a guard, it’s no secret. Edouard will certainly leave us to join Chelsea. In this position, we need to get someone back very quickly, I cannot give you names since there is nothing definitive.”

So, there we have it. Just have to wait a bit longer.
