PREVIOUSLY:
Davide Zappacosta’s options for next season appear severely limited after both Atalanta and Fiorentina moved on to alternative targets, but there is at least one more potential option back in the Serie A for the Chelsea right back.
According to Sportitalia (via Inside Futbol), Genoa have expressed a desire to sign Zappacosta and are considering a move. While there is no mention about the nature of the transfer in that report, Gianluca Di Marzio is claiming that it would be a temporary switch, which is not surprising, considering that the 28-year-old missed the majority of last season due to injury.

Zappacosta is clearly not in Chelsea’s plans, with César Azpilicueta and Reece James vying for the right back spot under Frank Lampard. While it may be impossible to move Zappacosta on permanently this season due to the financial impact of COVID-19, as well as him being out of action last season, a loan with a buy-option may be the kind of deal that suits all parties involved for the time being.
Chelsea are working to sell players on next days. Talks on with Genoa to loan out Davide Zappacosta. Tiemoué Bakayoko is still the main target for AC Milan. @SkySport @DiMarzio #CFC #transfers
