Bayern Munich back in for Callum Hudson-Odoi; Juventus, RB Leipzig also interested — report

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s Bayern Munich (non-)transfer saga dominated our football lives for a solid portion of the 2018-19 season, before the Chelsea Academy star put pen to paper on a new five-year contract last September.

But in the twelve months since, Hudson-Odoi hasn’t exactly kicked on to expected superstardom. (Not yet anyway; he is of course still just 19.) The Achilles injury obviously affected his play and his confidence, even if it was of the less severe variety than the one Ruben Loftus-Cheek is dealing with. But a 3-goal, 6-assist return from 33 appearances, with most of those assists clustered in his first few appearances of the season, didn’t exactly set tongues wagging. Hudson-Odoi started just 13 of those 33 games, with just 1 of those starts coming after the Restart, and that in a dead-rubber match against, incidentally, Bayern when everyone else in his position was injured.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have transformed the team’s attack from a largely veteran group to one where a 27-year-old Hakim Ziyech is practically father time. Hudson-Odoi is still the youngest forward in the first-team squad, but that’s no longer such a unique quality. And the feeling is that he needs to start performing, as unfair as that feeling may be.

Perhaps sensing some potential weakness, Bayern Munich are apparently poking around once again and making cheeky inquiries, if Sky Deutschland are to be believed. They report that the Champions of Germany and Europe, having failed to hang on to Ivan Perišić, have made contact with Hudson-Odoi’s representatives to sound out a potential loan move with an option to buy.

Bayern have apparently not floated this idea to Chelsea yet, presumably because they wouldn’t want to anger Granovskaia after she was built-up as some sort of Bond villain in the German media during the recent Kai Havertz saga. (I mean, they’re probably not wrong, but we prefer Star Wars references instead when talking about the Emperor’s Hand.)

In any case, Sky claim that Juventus and RB Leipzig are also “interested” in the 19-year-old winger, however the latter apparently can’t actually afford Hudson-Odoi’s wages while the former are just there to fill out the quota of three team names being required for BS rumors.
