Leeds United have signed six players already as part of their summer recruitment drive, but their work in the market may not be done. The Daily Mail bring word of their most ambitious plan yet, signing exciting Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher in a permanent deal.
Leeds are said to have tremendous faith in Gallagher’s ability and believe that he would be a perfect fit for manager Marcelo Bielsa. But rather than develop him for Chelsea by way of a loan, they want to sign him permanently and make him part of their long-term midfield future.
Obviously, Chelsea rate Gallagher just as highly, and are in talks with the 20-year-old over a contract extension beyond 2022. Chelsea are unlikely to be willing to agree to anything other than a loan, to say the least.
At this point, West Brom are apparently leading Aston Villa in the race for Gallagher’s loan-signature, and as long as he is promised a proper shot at game-time, either of those deals should work out just fine.
