Édouard Mendy’s almost transfer to almost Chelsea is almost done, this time almost almost for real. Almost!
The 28-year-old goalkeeper was pictured leaving Rennes’ training ground on Friday, and it was assumed that he was on his way to Chelsea imminently for a medical and a contract signing. That appears to have not been the case, at least not yet, especially with a transfer fee evidently not yet agreed between the two sides.
Said fee has been reported as anywhere from €22m to €28m, with the latest coming from The Athletic citing “a source at Rennes” who claims a €20m base fee with a €5m add-on. This would actually be closer to the very first reports of a potential agreement, which claimed an £18m fee (Chelsea’s second bid) with up to £7m in add-ons. So €20+5m would be actually better than that, adding another feather in the cap of Marina Granovskaia, though not sure there is room left for any more.
