The hills were alive with the sound of a €22m transfer agreement between Chelsea and Stade Rennais for Édouard Mendy yesterday, but a late sad lonely trombone from France claims that the deal isn’t done yet, that Mendy left training because of injury not a transfer, and that the Ligue 1 side are holding out for €30m.
L’Equipe add that Mendy will not be traveling with the team for their match on Sunday against Nîmes — “a small physical problem”, according to head coach Julien Stéphan — and that negotiations with Chelsea are still ongoing.
Mendy will surely end up signing but suggestions earlier were that his move to Chelsea is not quite done yet #cfc https://t.co/WfMOlLbBtY

So that just sounds like a few last minute details need to get ironed out, and we should still expect Mendy to become Chelsea’s sixth first-team signing this summer, with the 28-year-old goalkeeper expected to not only challenge but usurp Kepa Arrizabalaga for the starting position. We may not have a final “final” agreement yet, but it’s surely close and just a matter of time.
