Chelsea’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window is on his way to London, after the Blues agreed a transfer fee with Stade Rennais for Édouard Mendy. This was always going to be the likely outcome, but now we’re just days, if not hours away from things being officially official.
Here’s Mendy leaving Rennes’ training ground this morning after reportedly meeting with club officials, while the rest of his (soon former) teammates took training. Give us a wave, Édouard!

Personal terms with the 28-year-old goalkeeper had been agreed earlier this week, but the question of the transfer fee needed some extra effort to resolve. Our initial bid of €16m was nowhere near Rennes’ original asking price of €40m, and neither was the second (€20m), but it looks like we still managed to agree on the lower end of that scale — not quite €20m, but still very close at €22m.
Journalists on the Rennes beat suggest total fee #CFC have agreed for Édouard Mendy is €22m (about £20.4m.
