Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher is be primed for Premier League action next season. Although he was not able to achieve promotion with Swansea City during his half-season loan, he showed that he is ready to take his career to the next level despite being just 20 years old.
According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle United are one of the clubs who could open the doors of Premier League football to the Chelsea Academy youngster. With the latest takeover attempt collapsing as well, Newcastle have only £35m (plus money from any sales) available to spend this summer, so manager Steve Bruce will have to look at loans to reinforce his squad — and Gallagher would certainly be a good candidate for that.
It is unlikely that Gallagher would find regular playing time at Chelsea at the moment. The already numerous midfielders in the squad, not to mention the incoming additions of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, and potentially Kai Havertz as well, would make it rather difficult for him to play as many minutes as he’d ideally need at this stage of his development as a player.
And he’s got other options, too, than just Newcastle. While a return to Swansea might no longer be a possibility, Gallagher is attracting interest from several other clubs. The report claims there are eight in total, including Crystal Palace and West Ham.
Gallagher might have to put in one more year on loan before getting his shot at becoming a Stamford Bridge regular. Hopefully we can find a situation that makes everyone happy.
