The calendar may read August 2020, but we’re still finishing up the 2019-20 (European) season thanks to the 3-month coronavirus delay in the spring.
It’s an unprecedented situation, to be sure, even before we consider all the empty stands in all the empty stadiums. For some teams, such as Rangers in Scotland, the season is now in its 13th month, even as the first month of the new season is already underway. (Rangers beat Aberdeen last weekend in the opening round of the 2020-21 Scottish Premier League!)
Rangers’ calendar did get a bit more simplified today, as Stevie G’s men were unable to overcome a 3-1 home first leg defeat, with Bayer Leverkusen completing the job and advancing to the Europa League quarterfinals. Possibly Chelsea-bound Kai Havertz had a comfortable game out on the right flank, hitting the woodwork once in the 1-0 win.

The 21-year-old looks is set to stay until at least the end of Leverkusen’s Europa League campaign, which will now see them take on Antonio Conte’s Inter on Monday.
Similarly, Chelsea-linked Sergio Reguilón has made it clear that he’s not making any decisions until the end of the season for Sevilla, which also continues after their 2-0 win over AS Roma today. They will take on the winners of Wolves vs. Olympiakos.
Reguilón opened the scoring himself for Sevilla with a nice solo run and shot, though the goalkeeping was a bit dodgy, to be fair.
Reguilon solo goal sign him up @ChelseaFC
