Xavier Mbuyamba would have had his first anniversary at Chelsea by this point, were it not for the FIFA-imposed transfer ban last summer, but it appears that the stars are aligning for the teenage prospect’s arrival to finally become reality.
Mbuyamba, who originally hails from MVV Maastricht’s academy, was released from Barcelona’s U19 team a few weeks ago, which had more to do with politics as well a lack of proper senior-team pathway than anything else. But this bodes well for the Blues who can now sign him for
free a small compensation fee. According to Goal and the Daily Mail, Chelsea are leading several other clubs — including four other top Premier League sides — for the youngster’s signature.

Serie A champions, Juventus were also interested in acquiring the 18-year-old, but the youngster was apparently put off by the large number of defenders already present in the Old Lady’s ranks.

The player’s agent has already spoken of Chelsea’s interest in the past, and gave glowing reviews about the Blues, so there shouldn’t be any hindrances in completing this deal.
Standing at over 6 feet and 4 inches tall, Mbuyamba has the right mix of physicality and ball-playing ability to go to the very top. Competition is stiff undoubtedly, but the Blues are firmly in control and Xavier will end up a Chelsea player very soon in all likelihood.
