Thiago Silva was expected to be announced today by Chelsea, but it sounds like that will only happen tomorrow. That’s no big deal in the grand scheme of things.
And there’s even better news from the Telegraph, who report that only has the veteran defender passed his medical with Chelsea — done in Milan for whatever reason — but that the contract that he’s signed with the club isn’t for two years, as claimed earlier this week, but rather of the 1+1 year variety.
Giving two guaranteed years to a center back who turns 36 next month, regardless of how good he might still be, was not the best idea, but a one-year deal with an option for a second is just about perfect — even if it is apparently also exercisable by the player, not just the club, and even if, in theory, it probably means slightly higher wages.
In any case, the report says the announcement is “imminent” and various social media posts by those around him would indicate the same, so ... here we go.
