The Thiago Silva story is quickly reaching its obvious conclusion, with Sky Sports reporting that the veteran center back will undergo a medical at Chelsea on Thursday before presumably making things official with the Blues on a two-year (?) contract.
While these rumors only started in earnest last week, Chelsea have reportedly been working for several weeks to sign the PSG and Brazil national team captain. Silva confirmed his departure from PSG after their defeat in Sunday’s Champions League final and has rejected overtures from Fiorentina as well as a rumored last-ditch plea to stay from PSG as well.

Silva will turn 36 in September, but there’s evidently plenty left in the tank still. He should provide a good stopgap solution for the defense until we can address things better next summer. He himself is hoping to leverage this move into a spot on the Brazil 2022 World Cup squad.
Since Silva was playing just this past weekend, he will presumably get a bit of time off to rest and recover — though PSG had their domestic season cancelled back in the spring due to COVID-19, so he might just join up straight away. He had several months off after all between then and the restart of the Champions League earlier this month.
In any case, this looks to be happening and could be one of three big signings announced by Chelsea this week!
