Thiago Silva’s final match for PSG was either going to be a most joyous or a most disappointing occasion. Unfortunately for the veteran center back, it was the latter as Bayern emerged victorious Sunday night in Lisbon at the much-delayed but still highly anticipated 2020 Champions League final.
After eight years and over 300 appearances, Thiago Silva’s career at PSG thus ends in defeat — though he himself played well enough, certainly for a man about to turn 36.
And that performance underlines teams’ interest in the center back — including from Chelsea and Fiorentina. Silva confirmed his impending exit after the final whistle, stating that he wants to play for a few more years yet.
“This was my last match at PSG. I am sad. I apologise to the supporters. I want to thank all the fans for their love. [...] I want to play for three or four more years and be at the World Cup in Qatar.”

Silva also made it clear that he has not made a decision yet as to where he’s going. He’s said to be negotiating for a two-year contract at Chelsea, while Fiorentina were also reportedly making headway — though maybe not as much as those reports have claimed.
“Now I have to look for a new team. Fiorentina? Reports of an agreement are not true. My agent is talking to them and other clubs but nothing is signed yet.
“Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow I will have to look at the offers and make the best decision for me and my family.”

Sounds like we’ll know pretty soon whether Silva comes to Stamford Bridge or not.
Thiago Silva to @SkySport: “I’ve not accepted any bid. Reports of agreement reached with Fiorentina are NOT true. My agent is talking with Fiorentina as with other clubs. I’ll decide on next days with my family”. Chelsea are leading the race and waiting for final answer. #CFC— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 23, 2020
