Fikayo Tomori has not been seen on the pitch since the end of February, after playing in the 2-2 draw against eventually relegated AFC Bournemouth.

Unfortunately, we still do not know what has led to his extended absence from the first-team after that, but it has understandably led to some exit rumors — even though he signed a new long-term contract in December.

The 22-year-old was recently linked with a loan move to Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais, but according to L’Équipe (via Sport Witness), Chelsea are actually trying to generate a “bidding war” for the defender. The report is unclear whether those are transfer bids or loan bids that we’re soliciting, but surely it’s a lot more likely that they’re the latter rather than the former. Unless Tomori’s pushing to leave permanently, there should be no reason for us to sell.

Letting Tomori (or any of our other centre backs) leave would also require us to add a new player to the squad.
