Newly promoted Leeds United have been trying their hardest to convince Brighton & Hove Albion to accept a bid for Ben White, and let them keep the loanee who played such a key part in them winning the Championship. But while a third bid to the tune of £25m is currently under consideration, it is expected to be rejected just as the first two were.
But Leeds aren’t the only ones potentially interested in the highly rated centre back. According to the Guardian, Chelsea and Liverpool are also monitoring the situation. Whether our interest is real or just some chatter to stir up things is up for debate. White has recently rejected a contract extension from Brighton and has only two years left on his contract.
The report claims that Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard is a keen “admirer” of White, but also warns that Chelsea will have to start moving out some of the surplus pieces in the squad before making too many more additions. That could come via the sale of Emerson Palmieri, who is a target of Inter Milan, and midfielder Jorginho, who was reported as an AS Roma target yesterday — although from rather from rather dubious sources.
Should our interest be real, it would at least be indication that we know where some of our biggest issues in the squad lie.
