Remember Baba Rahman?
The one-time Chelsea left back hopeful, who arrived at Stamford Bridge after a glorious breakout season at Augsburg in the Bundesliga just in time for our worst season in living memory, but has not played a minute for us since while also dealing with a succession of knee injuries that have threatened to end his career repeatedly?
Well, that Baba Rahman is not only still around (and still on Chelsea’s books), but also reportedly targeting another career resurrection, having recovered from his latest knee surgery (LCL) in January.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, that might very well happen at his current loan club, Mallorca, who are heading back down to the Spanish second division after finishing second to last in La Liga. But Baba’s apparently quite smitten with the area, having bought a house in the city, and would be happy to stay for next season as well (especially as Chelsea are apparently willing to subsidize half his salary).
Baba managed only a handful of appearances for Mallorca this season, and other than a six-month stint at Stade Reims a couple seasons ago, has spent most of the past three years (years!) dealing with injuries.
Still, having just recently turned 26 years old, Baba has time to indeed resurrect his career, if he can stay healthy. His Chelsea contract runs through 2022, and according to the report, the Blues are happy to agree to a loan-to-buy arrangement with whoever steps forward — be that Mallorca or other suitors in Spain or France, either of which would suit the left back.
Best of luck, Baba!
