Chelsea have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to midfield options, but that isn’t going to stop the rumour mill from linking us with random midfielders who might be wanting to improve their station. It’s a tried and true tactic for represenatives to claim interest from multiple big teams in order to generate action for their clients.
Case in point, Nahitan Nández. If you were believe the stories coming from Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via Inside Futbol), you might think Chelsea actually have “interest” in the Cagliari midfielder.
With at least two other Premier League teams mentioned however, Arsenal and West Ham, plus the supposed front-runners in Napoli, Chelsea’s name is probably in there just to motivate things along.

That’s not to say that Nández is a bad player; far from it. He’s been a standout performer for Cagliari, who are not a very good team by any means. So even though this is his first season at the club, and his first season in Europe overall after moving from Boca Juniors last summer as a 23-year-old, he may already be ready for bigger and better things.
Nández won league titles in the New World with both Boca and the club that gave him his senior debut, Peñarol, while earning 31 senior caps for Uruguay already. He has a €36m release clause at Cagliari, which seems a bit steep, especially in these pandemic days, but stranger things have happened...
