Alex Telles still ‘expected’ to join a Premier League club — report

The Chelsea track to Alex Telles has gone a bit cold recently. Last we heard, PSG chose to extend Layvin Kurzawa’s contract, which put the Blues in the lead again for the FC Porto left back, but there’s been no movement since. Portuguese outlet, Record (via Sport Witness) brings a bit of life back into proceedings however.

According to their report, Telles’ entourage is still pushing for a move to the Premier League and that still looks like the most likely outcome this summer. Telles changed his agent to Pini Zahavi recently, who has a close association with the Chelsea top-brass, as well as numerous other PL sides.

Chelsea will no doubt continue to be at the forefront of this story, but it would appear that the 27-year-old is also being courted by Manchester City and Manchester United. City are looking for someone who’s not as erratic and injury-prone as Benjamin Mendy, while United are looking for a left-back to compete with Luke Shaw, with Brandon Williams apparently not quite impressing enough yet.

Telles’ excellent attacking numbers generate plenty of interest — 13 goals and 12 assists across 48 games this season — and with his contract expiring in a year, Porto won’t be able to extract too large of a transfer fee. They’re reportedly happy to do business at around €25m.

With another Chelsea target, Nicolas Tagliafico, available for a similar price, it would probably make more sense for us to go for one of them two, over the exorbitantly-priced Ben Chilwell.
