Structured €100m deal mooted as Chelsea, Havertz reach ‘verbal agreement’ — reports

Closer and closer

Chelsea certainly appear to be getting closer and closer to signing Kai Havertz this summer. Monday’s big report from The Athletic has been followed by subsequent confirmatory rumblings from various sources, including a couple form Germany, citing their own sources as well rather than just re-reporting others.

Sky Deutschland, for example, claim that all other clubs can be “deleted” from contention, as Havertz has “fully agreed” with the Blues. Sport Bild’s information is not quite as definitive, but they do expect negotiations to pick up in earnest now between the two clubs, which would seem to indicate that Havertz has made it known to Chelsea that he’s game to take his talents to the SW6.

The two reports also differ slightly in the possible transfer fee, as if this were an episode of The Price if Right. Who’s going to guess correctly? We’ll find out soon enough, maybe.

Sky’s going with €80m plus bonuses. Sport Bild says it “could” get done for €70m plus bonuses. Both expect the total package to reach €100m potentially, which would match Bayer Leverkusen’s asking price.

Oh my.
