The 2020 summer transfer window is set to open in less than 10 days, which means that the real football drama is only set to begin. Get these pesky games out of the way and give us our daily transfer rumors!
Yeah, it’s going to be a long couple months. Brace yourselves.
Meta commentary aside, Chelsea do have several needs to address in the ten weeks before the October 5 Deadline Day — but more realistically, before the mid-September start to next season — including, and quite importantly, at left back.
The primary target at the position has been Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell for quite some time now, but it’s yet to move past the speculative stage. There might be good reason for that: he’s not for sale.
At least that’s what Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers continues to claim. It’s a standard line, but certainly worth repeating it for them.
“He’s a Leicester City player and not a player we want to lose. I’m quite relaxed on it. I’m not worried at all. We’ve got a fantastic squad, a squad we want to keep together.
“There’s no intention to sell Ben Chilwell and there’s absolutely no need to sell. So the message is he’s not for sale — it’s as simple as that.”

Given Chilwell’s contract situation (four years left) and probable transfer fee (upwards of €80m maybe), it’s not looking particularly likely at the moment that Chelsea will be able to pull off this transfer.
