Aaron Hickey is two days shy of his 18th birthday. He’s a left back who plays for Scottish Premier League club Hearts, who are soon to not be a Scottish Premier League club. Unlike their neighbors to the south, the Scottish league was called off last month, with Hearts sitting at the bottom and Celtic named champions.
Celtic are just one of the teams named by the Daily Mail as supposedly interested in the teenager’s services. In a testament to the youngster’s agent, the other clubs linked are a great and random assortment from all across Europe, including Bayern Munich (to fill the Bundesliga quota required for any rumor about a young player), Lazio (lucky dartboard hit), and Chelsea (because Youth Revolution™ plus aren’t we looking for a left back?). Happy Birthday, kid!
While Hickey is likely to leave Hearts since he has one year left on his contract and they’re going the opposite way of his career, it seems far more likely that he’ll end up at Celtic than any of other named clubs. That said, did make 30 appearances in all competitions for Hearts this season, so he isn’t completely inexperienced and maybe that does have others further away paying close attention as well.
Chelsea’s main target for the left back position remains Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell. It will take a while for Hickey to get to his level, but he might have the potential to do so. We could always use more young talent!
