It’s no surprise that Kai Havertz has generated a lot of interest around Europe. It’s also no surprise that Bayern Munich are one of those teams.
And it’s also no surprise that they do not want to pay full price, since they rarely ever have to thanks to all their enablers in the Bundesliga. (Why pay transfer fees when you get the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Leon Goretzka for free?) It’s certainly a smart way to do business, if rather annoying for others. (And sometimes scummy, if we start talking up concepts like “tapping up”.)
That said, Kai Havertz’s contract does have only two years left on it, which would most likely mean a discount next summer from Bayer Leverkusen’s current €100m asking price.
And hence, Bayern would want to wait until then to get a deal done, contrary to recent reports of them being in “pole position” for this summer already.
That’s the story from Sport Bild today, who claim that the recently confirmed German champions are focusing on Leroy Sané this summer, who does only have a year left on his contract.
So, if we want to make a move, the time is now.
A Kai Havertz transfer to Bayern this summer is off the table. Bayern are focusing their efforts on Sané and have no intention to match Leverkusen's €100m+ asking price. But if Bayer & Havertz are ready to talk about a move in 2021, Bayern would be back in the race [@SPORTBILD] pic.twitter.com/VJCD3n5CZp
