According to French magazine France Football, Manchester United are one of several teams “looking” at Chelsea winger Willian.
It is unlikely at this point that Chelsea and Willian will be renewing their vows by more than a few weeks — if that — just so he can end the 2019-20 season at Stamford Bridge after the three-month delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Otherwise the 32-year-old’s seven-year Chelsea career will be ending on June 30.
With the divide between Willian’s demands (a three-year contract) and Chelsea’s maximum offer (a two-year deal) still standing, his agents have been on the prowl to find him a new club he could call home. France Football claims that Manchester United is one possibility, with the Red Devils keen on adding experience to their young attacking corps of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Mason Greenwood.
(Ed.note: Chelsea have one week, until June 23, to tender at least the temporary extension to Willian, otherwise he’s free to talk to any other team.)
Real Madrid also get a mention in the report, although they have a similar stance to Chelsea as they are not keen on offering Willian a three-year deal even if they sign him for free. United on the other hand are said be yearning for the “windfall” of acquiring a player as good as the veteran winger for free from a major rival.
