It has been a while since we’ve had a Timo Werner update, with Liverpool taking most of the headlines over the last few months on that front. However, it seems that there is trouble on Merseyside Wonderland, as Liverpool need more time before making a move, so they can assess how the COVID-19 pandemic will affect the transfer market.
At the same time, while RB Leipzig have acknowledged the likely possibility of Timo Werner leaving, they do not want to lose any money on the deal. With the 24-year-old still available for €60m thanks to a release clause valid until June 15, it’s time to get Chelsea back in the narrative.
Bild (via Sport Witness) claim Chelsea have already spoken to one of Werner’s representatives, Karlheinz Förster, over a potential transfer. And while the report still sees Liverpool as the “big favourites”, they are no longer in a one-team race.
Given the situation, it would certainly behoove us to be proactive here. While Werner himself has ruled out a transfer to Bayern, he seems potentially open to options other than Liverpool in England.
While this story is still most likely just an attempt to get Liverpool moving, if we want in, this is our chance as well.
Let’s hope we make the right move here.
