Roma linked with Jérémie Boga but pushing for Pedro — reports

Which winger will it be?

AS Roma are evidently looking for a new winger, with Manchester United’s Alexis Sanchez and Chelsea’s Pedro both getting linked in recent days. However, it appears they have at least one younger name on their wishlist, too.

Goal are reporting that Roma have joined the race for former Chelsea prospect Jérémie Boga, currently at Sassuolo, for whom we still have a €15m buyback option — though for some reason it seems unlikely that we will activate it. Still, it’s too soon to rule out a potential return, with the buyback fee a veritable bargain, even in a post-pandemic transfer window, for the impressive 23-year-old who’s been turning heads all season. Napoli and Everton have both been linked as well.

Despite the reported interested in Boga, it seems that AS Roma manager Paulo Fonseca is actually pushing for Pedro, as per a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness).

Fonseca apparently believes that Pedro can instill a winning mentality in the squad while also mentoring the likes of Cengiz Ünder, Carles Pérez, Nicolò Zaniolo and Justin Kluivert. Plus, he would be available on a free transfer.

Pedro himself is said to keen on this option, even more so than going back to Spain, though former teammate Xavi’s Al-Sadd remains an option as well. Roma already have an offer prepped, reportedly, so it might only be a matter of time.
