Chelsea have been linked fairly frequently over the past few months with Manchester United’s Angel Gomes, and while it initially looked like the youngster would sign a new contract with the Red Devils, the situation has become a lot less certain.
While United have offered Gomes a new contract and Solskjaer is keen on integrating the 19-year-old into the senior team setup, negotiations are at a standstill, with no agreement yet. Goal reports that while the initial expectation was that Gomes would follow Tahith Chong’s example in signing a new contract with his boyhood club, now it looks more likely that the player will leave on a free transfer next month.

That certainly would provide an opportunity for other teams, and according to the Daily Mirror, Chelsea are confident about the prospect of snapping up the teenager.
The England U-20s international is represented by Pini Zahavi, who has apparently already held talks with Blues director Marina Granovskaia. Gomes could reportedly earn £30,000-a-week if he commits his future to United, but he apparently wants greater assurances of first-team chances and believes that Chelsea just may be the right place to help him in that regard.
If Gomes ends up not signing with Manchester United, he would certainly be welcome here. One can never have too many talented young players in the system (especially if they can be signed effectively for free)!
