According to Sport, Barcelona are no longer interested in Chelsea attacker Willian after rejecting the chance to make an approach for the future free agent.
Willian was the subject of Barcelona’s interest a few times in recent years, but their previous approaches were outright rejected by Chelsea. The latest such advance took place in January last year, with a part-exchange valued at £50m.
But even though Willian could now be a Barça player for “free” (as in, no transfer fee) in the next transfer window, and the club still see him favourably, they are currently seeking a different approach to the market. Their priority is get a younger player, who will likely not carry wage demands as high as Willian’s.
The doors at Barcelona might be closed, but Willian should still have a chance to land himself a spot on another top club. Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham are listed as potential destinations for him in case he does not extend his contract with Chelsea, which would be quite unexpected.
