Yet another story about Willian not extending his Chelsea contract

There are only so many ways media reports from England, media reports from Brazil, or Willian himself for that matter can put this, but Willian’s time at Chelsea is coming to an end at the end of this season, whether that happens in June, July, or August ... or maybe even September.

Here’s the latest from UOL, in case you want to read one more time the same thing you’ve read umpteen times already. Spoilers!

Whenever and however the 2019-20 season ends, Willian will be leaving Stamford Bridge. (Barring any unforeseen developments, since you never truly know in football until things are signed, sealed, and delivered, and sometimes even then not.) UOL’s report features Barcelona as a potential destination, though he’s said that he wants to stay in England.

The 31-year-old has repeatedly confirmed in various interviews — some of which, like the ones in the last few days have already been recycled several times over — that he’s failed to agree an extension with the club even though Chelsea were willing to break with club policy (again), to sign him to a two-year extension. But he wants three years, which seems ridiculous. Chelsea evidently think the same, and so it’s goodbye and sayonara and tchau, Will-I-an.
