The takeover of Newcastle United could be completed in the next few days, and new ultra-rich owners usually bring in new players. But it’s not just about marketing and big names. You need talent and experience as well.
Newcastle are reportedly looking to do just that with once Chelsea-linked Edinson Cavani, currently Chelsea-linked Dries Mertens, and Chelsea’s own Willian all on the club’s radar. However, according to the Newcastle Chronicle, there is another Chelsea veteran on their list, former Barcelona lucky charm, Pedro.
If Newcastle’s new owners are looking for player who know a thing or two about winning, they could hardly do any better than the 32-year-old winger. Pedro is the most illustrious player at Chelsea these days, with a personal trophy cabinet practically overflowing: 27 club triumphs with Barca and the Blues and 2 international ones with Spain as well.
However, as recently claimed, AS Roma are also interested in Pedro’s services. With talks reportedly already taking place there, Newcastle have some ground to make up if they want to sign the player. While Roma can offer Pedro the opportunity to be a part of a “more developed” project, Newcastle’s financial clout could well sway his thinking.
After five years of solid service to the cause, Pedro’s time at Chelsea is coming to an end, but his next adventure could be an interesting one as well.
