According to a report from Dutch magazine Voetbal International, Feyenoord are struggling to agree a new contract with young midfielder Orkun Kökçü. While the 19-year-old still has three years left on his current deal, the Eredivisie outfit want to add another year (along with a pay bump, presumably) to keep the talented youngster at the club.
The Turkey U21 international was named as a target for Chelsea, Arsenal and several other teams back in February. But he’s also an important player for the plans of manager Dick Advocaat.
Feyenoord’s latest offer, made by former Chelsea football director Frank Arnesen, was apparently simply “ignored” by Kökçü due to the gap between the club’s offer and the player’s demands.
They have plenty of time to come up with a better offer of course, but there’s an opportunity for teams like Chelsea to swoop in and add a promising box-to-box talent for relatively cheap.
