Kays Ruiz-Atil waiting for ‘firm’ Chelsea interest — report

The “Next Messi”

In January, Chelsea were linked with Kays “New Messi” Ruiz-Atil, who plays for the under-19 team of PSG. Described as a central midfielder, the 17-year-old has yet to make his senior debut, but is quite highly rated. Like most teenage footballers, he is looking for his big break. Who better to provide that break than the instigators of the Youth Revolution™, Chelsea?

But according to L’Equipe (via Get French Football News as well as Inside Futbol), while Chelsea have remained in “continuous talks” ever since, the youngster’s family (representatives?) are waiting for a “firm sign” from the Blues that a transfer might actually go ahead. To show their intent, talks with other teams, such as Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Marseille have apparently “ceased”, so it sounds like the ball is entirely in Chelsea’s court.

Ruiz-Atil’s contract with PSG expires in 2021, and PSG are likely willing to let him go now in return for a transfer fee, instead of next summer in return for practically nothing. While Chelsea are not hurting for midfield numbers at the moment, we should always be looking to upgrade our options either for the present or the future. And for Ruiz-Atil, who will turn 18 in August, the future is certainly very bright.

He may not get minutes straight away, but the youth pathways at Chelsea are much more open these days than before, and that should prove an attractive proposition for players like him. Let’s hope this transfer gets done then so that we can have one more talented youth in our ranks!
