According to Brazilian news outlet GaúchaZH, Porto fullback and reported Chelsea transfer target Alex Telles will be joining Paris Saint-Germain instead. The Ligue 1 giants have been making progress in their advanced talks and “should” be reaching an agreement “soon”.
The report is told from the perspective of local club Grêmio, who will be receiving a solidarity payment (as mandated by FIFA’s transfer regulations) for the part they played in the the player’s development in 2014. With an expected transfer fee in the region of €20-25m, the Rio Grande do Sul State club will be receiving about €0.5m. Meanwhile, nearby Juventude will be receiving about €0.75m — exact totals will depend on the final transfer fee.
So that’s good news for them.
The news is less good for Chelsea, if our intentions were truly to try to grab Telles from Porto at a reasonable price, after so many years of being linked with the 27-year-old left back. While there’s always a chance for a bit of last-minute drama, considering how little talk there’s been of Chelsea making any progress with Telles, it seems unlikely that we will be able to win this “battle” against PSG.
