While Chelsea have been making headlines this season with the success of our homegrown Youth Revolution™, we’ve had more than our fair share of “misses” over the years as well, letting talented youngsters slip by and out of the system.
One such mistake was local lad Declan Rice leaving the Academy at age 14. He’s become a staple in West Ham’s midfield since, and has established himself as an England international as well. Even if we try to rectify that mistake in the future, it will prove a costly affair. But it might just be worth it.
Luckily for us, Rice does remain keen on playing with Mason Mount, who is one of the leaders of the aforementioned youth revolution.
“I’d love to play with [Mason Mount] at club level again. One thing we’ve always said as kids we’d love to play with each other at club and international level but obviously you never know because of different paths and things like that.”

The good friends have played together in the Chelsea youth academy, for the England national team, virtually over FIFA video games, and, less admirably, broke self-isolation protocol to do so as well.
So, why not at Stamford Bridge then?
