Not understandable, but still

In the background of Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Everton yesterday. which included a great performance by Willian, there was a social media post by his wife that some had interpreted as a sign that the veteran winger is not only leaving Stamford Bridge, but that he’s leaving it for Arsenal.

But that’s surely reading into things too much, right?

Willian himself found the whole situation a bit weird when quizzed about it by ESPN Brasil, but did acknowledge once again that he and his family very much want to stay in London.

“In fact we like London. I’ve talked about that a lot of times. It’s a city that me and my family love to live in. And I really don’t know why she published that [on social media].”

Another thing that Willian has talking a lot of times is his desire to stay at Chelsea, but just as he confirmed last time, he once again confirmed that he wants to do so on his terms. And those terms include a three-year contract, which Chelsea appear unsurprisingly unwilling to match.

And so, the two sides remain at a standstill, and it seems unlikely that either will budge.

“But indeed, it’s because the contract situation here is not easy. Chelsea offered me two, I asked for three, and we stopped there. There’s nothing more to it.”

Chances are, Willian will get to stay in London for next season. He will only have to choose which colour his family would prefer to wear on matchdays.
