Two weeks ago, there were murmurs of Davide Zappacosta extending his loan with AS Roma beyond this season and that still appears to be the case. While there is a purchase option in his current loan deal, considering that he’s spent practically the entire season injured, Roma are in no hurry to acquire him permanently as per a report from Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness).
As logic would dictate, the concerned people in Rome will monitor his progress before making a final decision. In addition, AS Roma already have Davide Santon and Bruno Peres on their books, along with a loaned-out Alessandro Florenzi (now that’s a blast from the past!). Although there is a belief that Zappacosta could potentially be the long-term right back under head coach Paulo Fonseca, there’s still plenty of time for them to assess all of their options.
While an outright purchase is still possible, a loan extension seems like the more probable scenario, a decision about which will probably not be taken until closer to the end of the season.
So, nothing’s changed, everything’s the same and Zappacosta will in all likelihood still remain on Chelsea’s books and on loan next season as well (after probably signing an extension to his current contract which expires in 2021).
