Tabloids keep pushing Chelsea angle as Manuel Neuer parries Bayern Munich contract extension offer

Years apart

According to German tabloid Bild, Manuel Neuer has parried Bayern Munich’s latest contract renewal offer, which is once again being billed as a potentially exciting opportunity for Chelsea, even though this rumor was debunked once already by more trustworthy sources.

But here we go again.

As per the report, Neuer wants a massive XXL deal all the way through 2025. Bayern are not exactly willing to do that for a 34-year-old, even if goalkeepers tend to have longer careers than non-goalkeepers. Neuer might still be very good, but Bayern also have young Alexander Nübel waiting in the wings, and his career would be practically over at Bayern if Neuer signs a five-year extension. So the Bavarian giants are offering only two years, which seems much more reasonable.

This is hardly the last word on this situation — Neuer does have one more year left on his current contract — and negotiations always feature plenty of proposals, rejections, and compromises. It’s all part of the process, and it would remain quite surprising to see Neuer leave Bayern, and even more surprising to see him join Chelsea.

You never know in football of course, but this seems little more than silly nonsense, just as before.
