Inter Milan’s interest in Marcos Alonso is well-known at this point, but they’re looking at Chelsea’s other left back, Emerson as well. In fact, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness and Sempre Inter), Alonso and Emerson make up two-thirds of Inter’s wishlist, with Olympiaco’s Kostas Tsimikas completing the list.

While Inter do have Cristian Biraghi, Kwadwo Asamoah and Ashley Young on their books, Biraghi has failed to impress in the unconventional wingback role while Asamoah’s constant injuries have kept him out of action for most of the 2019-20 campaign. Antonio Conte would be looking for a player who can rotate with the not-so-young Ashley Young for the very crucial left wingback position, which is often described as the weak link in his Inter Milan side.

Conte’s love and trust for his ex-players is well-established, with Victor Moses likely to play a big role for the Serie A club come the next campaign. Alonso or Emerson (and Giroud?) could follow suit. However, the focal point of any transfer negotiation is the price. Inter Milan have continually pushed for lower prices in all their dealings with Chelsea, and are hoping do do the same here, having baulked at Chelsea’s €30m or so asking prices for the players in January.

Given the current state of the world and the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, not to mention Chelsea’s own search for a new left back, Inter might find us in more willing mood to cut a deal.
