According to reports from AS in Spain and La Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy, Serie A club Lazio are interested in signing both Pedro and Olivier Giroud in the summer, or whenever the next transfer window might occur.
The two veteran attackers have not been regulars at Chelsea this season, and they are nearing the ends of their contracts. Regardless of how the ongoing football stoppage due to the COVID-19 pandemic plays out, they are unlikely to be signed to new deals and thus will be free to join whomever they want.
Lazio had been doing surprisingly well this season, surpassing Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan in the Serie A table for second-place, right behind Maurizio Sarri’s Juventus. Only one point separates Juve (63 points) from the Bianconeri (62), thanks to Inter (54) losing two in a row just before everything got suspended.
While it is clear that striker Ciro Immobile, with 27 league goals this season, is the main man for Lazio, Giroud could very well be an upgrade to others on the team, like Felipe Caicedo and Joaquín Correa. At the same time Pedro, with his work rate and determination, could still be a very effective wing-back in Simone Inzaghi’s setup, just as he was on a few occasions under Conte.
