Marc-André ter Stegen is negotiating a new contract with Barcelona, and to help motivate those talks in his favor, some well-timed links with Chelsea and Juventus and Bayern Munich appeared in the rumor mill last week.
Unsurprisingly, those rumors from far away have only led to positive progress back home, with Catalan tabloid Sport (via Sport Witness) reporting that Barcelona remain calm and confident over the situation and negotiations continue at a “steady pace”. Ter Stegen rumors seemed far-fetched to begin with; now they’re almost certainly off the table.
If Chelsea are to strengthen at goalkeeper — most likely in addition to Kepa Arrizabalaga rather than directly replacing the world’s most expensive goalkeeper — we’re going to have to turn elsewhere. Ajax’s André Onana and Bournameouth’s Aaron Ramsdale have both been linked recently, and the former not for the first time, while Atlético Madrid’s Jan Oblak remains the ultimate dream.
