Hakim Ziyech is set to be an official Chelsea player when the transfer window opens (and football itself resumes at some point, too), but he’s hoping that he isn’t the only Ajax player who joins the blue side of London in the summer.
According to a Daily Mail report, Ziyech is hoping to convince the Blues hierarchy to make a move for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Onana has been strongly linked to Chelsea before, and it would be a surprise at this point if Chelsea weren’t interested at all. Tottenham also have a reported interest (as they do with other goalkeepers as well, including Aaron Ramsdale), while Barcelona have been monitoring their former academy boy too, due to the uncertainty over Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s contract situation.
The report adds that Ziyech is a good friend of Onana, and if true, that would help probably help Chelsea’s intentions, not to mention helping both players settle in their new surrounding.
However, football clubs don’t usually make big transfer decisions based on players’ personal preferences, and although there is a strong possibility that Chelsea will look to buy a new goalkeeper in the summer, the idea that Chelsea will do it to appease Ziyech seems extremely presumptuous at best.
