Timo Werner was one of the strikers supposedly on the Chelsea radar in January, though it became pretty clear that the 23-year-old goal-machine was not going anywhere just yet, despite a (relatively cheap) release clause built into his contract. He had no desire to make his life more interesting (or complicated) by leaving Bundesliga-leaders RB Leipzig in midseason, as he himself told Bild.
But now that the transfer window is over and we have to wait until a little bit closer to summer for cheap clicks, Werner is not shying away from keeping the rumor mill’s wheels a-turning.
“What do you say if a club comes knocking in the next two weeks, a club which is one of the favourites to win the Champions League and makes an incredible offer? Most likely every player would think about it.”
Well that doesn’t sound too good for us!
”I can generally imagine playing abroad one day, although I don’t have any specific club where I want to be.”
“I am open for everything. I was over in America for a holiday recently and English football was on all of the time. That’s an exclamation mark for the Premier League. But there are also big, famous clubs and it would certainly be fun playing there.”
We’re a one-team league these days, haven’t you heard, Timo?
It’s not the first time Werner’s talked highly of the Premier League, but all that’s missing now is the token statement about how he’s happy and focused at his current club.
“When you score 20 goals as a 23-year-old in a season then, of course, there is interest. That’s clear. But, right now, I am not thinking about what happens in the future. We are going into many important games. That’s what I want to focus on now. I can still contemplate my future later.”
