Young Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo has been in great form this season, with the 22-year-old loanee scoring 10 goals in 16 games for Cercle Brugge in the Belgian top flight, which is especially impressive considering that the team have scored just 25 goals altogether and sit just one point off the bottom of table.
Ugbo’s form for the struggling side has piqued the interest of other clubs however, with Russian Premier League side FK Rostov apparently lodging a £3m bid, as per Goal. But Chelsea have rejected the bid, and are said to be holding out for £5m, which is also the buy-option built into his current loan deal.
Ugbo first joined Chelsea at the U10 level, and his current contract expires in 2022. While it seems unlikely that he will be leading the line for the Blues anytime soon, he could still move to a top European side, including one in the Premier League, as The Athletic have noted.
The Athletic’s piece also contains an interview of the man himself, where he talks about his life, loans and ambitions, and it does make up for quite an interesting read.
When @IUgbo’s confidence was shattered after 3 loans to EFL clubs, the #CFC academy striker took the brave step of seeing a sports psychologist. In this heartfelt interview, he explains how that decision has played a big part in turning his career around: https://t.co/jYP55HG10E
