No sooner has Olivier Giroud (reportedly) decided to stay with Chelsea in January, he’s been linked with a new team in the January transfer window. According to a Mirror “exclusive”, the 34-year-old is on West Ham’s radar for the transfer window that’s set to open next week.
The Hammers are having a fairly good season — 3-0 loss at the Bridge on Monday notwithstanding — but they could certainly use some help in the goalscoring department if they are to stay towards the top end of the table rather than slide back down as we head into the new year.
Sebastian Haller has not lived up to expectations since his club record 45m arrival — just 10 goals in 44 Premier League appearances — and the versatile Michail Antonio, now on the wrong side of 30, is seemingly always dealing with injuries, including right now.
Giroud has more goals than Haller and Antonio combined so far this season, in far fewer minutes, even, though it’s unlikely that he will continue to play as big of a role for the Blues as he had been prior to Monday’s game. That could sway him should the Hammers indeed come knocking, though Lampard will also certainly try to convince him to stay.
