Chelsea defender Antonio Rüdiger has always been a fighter, and that remains true even at the current crossroads of his career, wherein opportunities at Stamford Bridge this season have been few and far between — with Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma firmly established as the first-choice centre back pairing.
But while Rüdiger is not running away from the challenge, and has worked his way up to primary backup from fifth choice in the summer, if some other team(s) were to come in for him in January, he would probably consider their offers, especially if those teams were the likes of PSG or Barcelona.
The first link comes from France, where Le Parisien (via Sport Witness) claim that PSG manager Thomas Tuchel still favours a move for the defender after a brief rumor-dalliance just before the season. The second link comes from England, where The Athletic claim that Barcelona maintain Rüdiger and Newcastle’s Fabian Schär as “alternatives” to signing Manchester City’s Eric Garcia, just as it was reported earlier this month.
Whether Rüdiger would be in line for more minutes at either team is debatable, but first we’ll have to wait and see if any of these rumors actually turn into anything approaching real.
