AS Roma could help themselves and their former player Antonio Rüdiger out after the latter was offered to them (presumably on loan) in the latest deadline day twist.
Smalling's deal to Roma off again, as Roma prefer a loan option and have been offered Antonio Rudiger.

The Giallorossi have been trying to get Chris Smalling to return for a second season, but Manchester United are pushing for a transfer instead of a second loan, and that looks unlikely to happen. But Roma still need a defender, which is where Rüdiger comes (back) in.
Roma are back in for Rudiger. Deal that was blocking it was Smalling from Man United but the Serie A giants are being asked for too much (in their view) by the Old Trafford club. Puts Rudi back in contention.

The 27-year-old was signed by Chelsea from Roma back in 2017, and while he’s spoken negatively about his time in Italy after experiencing racist abuse, he might be open to returning if that means actual playing time ahead of next summer’s European Championship. Rüdiger will surely need minutes to keep his spot in the German national team, and that’s not looking likely at Chelsea at the moment.
Rüdiger might have options elsewhere, too, including at PSG, but time’s running out in the transfer window.
UPDATE: not at PSG.
