Malang Sarr set to join FC Porto on loan, add new dimension to his game — report

After being linked to the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Sampdoria and St Étienne, it appears that Malang Sarr is taking a slightly more unconventional route in his development. According to Portugal-based A Bola, the 21-year-old is set to join FC Porto on a season-long loan instead.

Sarr’s loan to Porto comes against the backdrop of perennial Chelsea-target and (still) current Porto left back, Alex Telles’ imminent transfer to Manchester United. While it has been claimed that left back is not Sarr’s preferred position and neither his strong suit, there is always a possibility that the youngster wants to add a new dimension to his gameplay.

Sarr should also get plenty of game-time with the Dragões since his only competition at the position would be newcomer Zaidu Sanusi, although the report claims that the France U21 international will also provide cover at centre back positions if and when required.

It’s worth noting that Portugal’s transfer window closes on 6th October, one day after the Premier League’s, which should provide just a little extra time for this potential deal to go through.
