If Chelsea are to successfully offload a left back in the last 24 hours of the 2020 summer transfer window, we might have to do so with Emerson rather than Marcos Alonso.
The veteran wing-back, who briefly became the favorite in that regard after becoming anything but a favorite for Frank Lampard following the bout of unprofessionalism during the second half of the West Brom match, has garnered very little interest of late. And the only team who were linked, however tenuously, have now ruled out any approach.
Here’s Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta confirming that Alonso is “absolutely not” on their transfer agenda, especially in these economic times.
“We have experienced the window under the banner of the economic-financial downturn recorded by all teams. Even Inter have not made any striking deals and tried to seize opportunities. [...] One day is left in the window, we will evaluate together what needs to be done.
“[Alonso is] absolutely not on the agenda, he won’t come.”

Emerson’s agent said yesterday that his client’s future is far from certain, so perhaps something can happen in that regard now. Surely, it makes no sense for him and Alonso to both stay, both from their and team’s perspective.
It looks quite a lot like Emerson will leave Chelsea and Marcos Alonso will stay right now. A lot of decisions are being made today on these two; Antonio Rudiger, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. That along with several loanees. #CFC
